A day in the life of a Civil Engineering student

When most people hear civil engineering, they think about immense books, esoteric formulae, and all-written lectures. It is, of course, a course that many would easily associate with what is popularly known as big brains; however, brain power is only one part of the cocktail; sheer perseverance is another.

Is civil engineering really that tough?

There are many obstacles right through that draw you out; everything seems utterly impossible at that moment. But that’s when the real test begins. If you hold on and keep trying, the road from then onwards would be all the easier for you. For remember, you have got your brain; if you remain determined, nothing shall ever turn impossible.

Beginning of A Day in A Life

These getting-up-morning-to-get-ready-for-pearl lectures are at times marathon-and-nightmare, while once in a while they can be extremely light and fun. Either way, I believe it is harmful to miss any because this is what aids learning.

And why take a break?

There is an important reason for taking breaks after the class. Trying to study without a break, ultimately, your brain gets overworked. I eat something nice, take a bit of a rest, and either go back home or to the library to finish my assignments. I plan my day around that.

Time Management: The True Asset of an Engineering Student
I guess one can imagine why an engineering student is busy: With assignments, projects, lab work – all to be completed in time becomes second nature. I prepare my daily schedule in full and do my utmost to adhere to it. Anything I miss out gets carried to the next day.

Balancing studies and personal life

Finding that balance between studying and working
After all, study is not life. Civil engineering does take concentration; however, hard focusing on only one thing can drain a person mentally and physically. That is why I get involved in all sorts of activities: sports, meditation, prayer, doing something charitable, or going out to cheer friends up. It all helps me stay sane and look on the bright side.

Extracurricular activities

Extracurricular activities immensely enhance one’s university experience. They allow me to see things differently about my course and, most importantly, give me new information and opportunities.

Motivation: Constantly Reminding Myself of My Aims

Concerning my aims, great and small, I meditate daily: Thus, they constitute my beacon. With a picture of my dream job mentally drawn ahead of me, it gives me some sense of that what I am doing now is laying the groundwork for that future.

The shared journey of knowledge: Group study

Group study makes my schedule; it provides one with an opportunity not just to learn from others but also share their own knowledge and skills. Such friendships forged here will provide precious memories for a lifetime while sharing some of the stress.

Self-talk and prayer before sleeping

Every night, I take some time to sit and reflect on my day, thinking about what I did well, what I could have done better, and what I should focus on for tomorrow. I find that praying as a believer helps to recharge my day. I strive for self-improvement, to think positively, and most of all not to give up.

Finally, Is it worth it?

Absolutely! It is a tough course, but civil engineering shapes the way for a skilled, disciplined, and motivating engineer, a truly humane person.
